The NOMAD is our innovative and groundbreaking mounted surveillance camera solution that can be rapidly deployed anytime, anywhere, and—if you take advantage of our solar-powered option—even if a power source is not available. Since the NOMAD’s conception, it has been used by multiple agencies and cities in a variety of different ways.
NOMAD Mobile Camera: Overt vs. Covert Models
There are different NOMAD models depending on a client’s needs, but these also come in two distinct types: overt and covert.
With the overt application—regardless of whether it’s a 360° camera, PTZ, fixed camera, or an LPR—agencies are typically using these in high-crime areas, in public spaces where large groups of people tend to congregate, in business districts, or even in neighborhoods with problem areas. In these environments, the NOMADs give police additional situational in key locations. Agencies can use a universal bracket to place the unit on a pole, the side of a sign, or even a building. They then need to plug into power (or use our solar-powered option), and they’re up and operational.
Conversely, our covert NOMAD solution is perfect for investigators and detectives. Because it’s covert and the device’s components are hidden inside, it allows for discreet surveillance operations. This allows officers to track and monitor illegal activities on the street from a distance—completely undetected.
How Agencies Are Using the NOMAD
Police and first responders use the NOMAD daily, and they do so in a number of different ways.
The NOMAD gives users real-time, high-definition video that’s stored locally in the enclosure—continuously—for a period of up to 30 days. The footage can be retrieved remotely, so users don’t have to go to the unit to download video evidence.
Most cities are using the NOMAD in high-crime areas where they want to put a presence on the street so they can capture crime or vehicles and people coming into and out of a specific area.
Cities are also using the NOMAD at special events. Whether it’s a parade, a scheduled protest, or an unscheduled riot, the unit can be deployed immediately in or nearby the area (or in an area where people can be corralled so footage can be captured). The NOMAD’s usefulness during these events can be enhanced by using software analytics. With a scheduled parade, for example, you place units along the parade route so they record the event and the environment, but at the same time, certain analytics can be used to count people, identify suspicious objects, or even identify known suspects. In addition, this footage can be streamed back to dispatch, to a phone or connected tablet, or even through an MDT in a police vehicle, so foot patrol, dispatch, and other first responders have live access to the footage during the event.
Some agencies are using the NOMAD in nature trails, walking paths, or other green spaces that cities are creating. Because they are somewhat remote and can’t necessarily be accessed by a vehicle, law enforcement can’t always patrol these areas. As a result, the units are placed in these areas so they can be monitored in real time.
Why the NOMAD is Valued by Cities and Agencies
The NOMAD mobile camera is highly adaptable, multi-purpose, and can make an immediate impact in communities. But if that’s not enough, here are some other reasons that cities and law enforcement agencies value the NOMAD:
- It’s rapidly deployable (usable any time).
- It’s a multi-sensory device.
- Utility companies view NOMADs as temporary attachments and will provide municipalities with “convenience taps” to power the units at will.
- The cost to deploy a NOMAD unit is far less than designing and deploying a fully dedicated citywide camera system.
- NOMADs are open-platform and can be used with a city’s existing video management system (or we can provide one for you).
- The NOMAD is a full turn-key solution that provides you with a force multiplier for your agency and greater situational awareness to help keep your staff and communities safer.
